Name

What is it?

For 1 cup granulated white sugar, use:

Agave nectar

Made from a Mexican fruit, it is mostly fructose

3/4 cup

Barley Malt

Made from sprouted barley, has trace amounts of protein. Very Strong Flavor.

3/4 cup

Date Sugar

Made from dehydrated dates, is high in fiber, vitamins and minerals, including iron

1 cup

Honey

Extracted flower nectar by bees. Has trace minerals and enzymes

1/2 cup

Lo Han

Made from a Chinese Plant. Does not affect blood sugar.

1 tsp: experiment!

Maple Syrup

Sap from trees, the lower the grade, the more trace minerals it contains.

1 cup

Molasses

Made from boiling sugar cane. Blackstrap is the healthiest. High in minerals

1 1/4 cup

Rice Syrup

Made from rice and another grain.

3/4 cup

Sucanat

Dried Cane Juice, some trace minerals.

1 cup

Stevia

Herb from Paraguay. Doesn’t affect blood sugar. Strong, bitter aftertaste. Try tincture form.

1/2 tsp: experiment!

Turbinado/Raw Sugar

Sugar that is slightly less refined than white.

1 cup
