Every April, we celebrate Earth Day. However, how we celebrate has changed since it was founded in 1970.
The first Earth Day focused on organized rallies and educating people about the importance of caring for our environment. The impact was significant, and in the subsequent years, major legislation was passed to prioritize environmental policy, including the:
- Clean Air Act
- Water Quality Improvement Act
- Endangered Species Act
- Toxic Substances Control Act
- Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act
52 years later, over 1 billion people take part in celebrating and recognizing Earth Day.
Ready to get more involved? Here are a few simple ways our team and Wellness Experts like to celebrate Earth Day, in April, and every day!
SHOP SUSTAINABLE & EARTH-FRIENDLY BRANDS
Our Wellness Experts thoughtfully curate the best selection of sustainable and earth-friendly brands. This ensures that you can shop with confidence, knowing we've selected the best brands and options for you. Some of our trusted brands include ACURE, Dr. Bronner’s, and The Humble Co. They make our list because of their dedication to going above and beyond in supporting our planet. For instance, did you know that ACURE operates a Terracycle program? This makes their skincare line even more appealing, as you can support a great cause by purchasing an excellent product.
CLEAN UP YOUR BEACH
Every New Leaf Community Market serves Coastal Communities, so this cause is dear to us! You can get involved by connecting with your local Chamber of Commerce. Alternatively, you can check your local Facebook page or connect with a community group through your favorite local coffee shop to learn about ongoing beach clean-up days in your area. It's a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors, network with others, and show our beautiful environment some love.
PLANT NATIVE PLANTS AND WILDFLOWERS.
Many plants are not native to our coastal desert region and while they can look very attractive, they don’t support the overall ecosystem. Planting native species attracts and supports pollinators. Choosing native species also creates more harmony and health in our local ecosystem, impacting birds, animals, and other insects that rely on these plants. Plants and wildflowers native to Southern California save water and bring harmony to their environment. Want to learn more? Click here!
